Wanda Novales, This Year's Feria Honoree!

2013 Honoree in Education
Mrs. Novalés brings 18 years of experience in Early Childhood, Elementary Education and School Administration to Pan American Academy Charter School. She was born in Puerto Rico and raised in Philadelphia. Mrs. Novalés received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Temple University and her Master in Educational Leadership from Cheyney University.

She also received a Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility from Arcadia University. Mrs. Novalés has served as a teacher, program coordinator, assistant principal and school principal. Most recently she has served as the Chief Executive Officer and founding principal of the Pan American Academy Charter school. Through her vision and leadership, the school has made academic gains and has reached AYP for four consecutive years. In 2013, Pan American Academy Charter School became Philadelphia’s first elementary school designated as an International Baccalaureate World School. It has 730 students receiving a bilingual education in grades in K-8.

DENICE FROHMAN, Poet, Performing at Feria

Denice Frohman, Will Perform at Feria Del Barrio 2013
DENICE FROHMAN is an award-winning poet, lyricist, and educator, whose work explores the intersections of race, gender, sexuality, and the “in-betweeness” that exists in us all. She is the 2013 Women of the World Poetry Slam Champion and a 2012 Leeway Transformation Award recipient. She has performed and taught poetry across the country and internationally in arts venues, rallies, K-12 schools, colleges, conferences, and detention centers. She is currently the Program Director at The Philly Youth Poetry Movement.
